A hot topic being discussed among educators around the world is the notion of “one-to-one” computing. Are we going to have a laptop computer for each student in our schools? Will the “one hundred dollar laptop” become a global reality? Is the technology becoming so inexpensive that anyone/everyone will be able to afford it? In truth, all of these things have already happened, whether we like it or not!

This section of the blog is for video game reviews. Do you have a game you are currently playing that you think other people would be interested in?

Add your comment here!
If you write about a game, please try to write about the following points:
1) How fun is the game? What makes it fun?
2) How are the graphics and music?
3) How easy or difficult is it?
4) Who would enjoy the game?
I am playing game called "Final Fantasy 3", a re-make of a game from 1990, that was never released in North America. It is a role-playing game, or RPG. This means you control a team of people who travel around, trying to defeat evil. Your characters increase in their abilities as you gain ...

Video Game Ratings: What you need to know |

As the holiday shopping season is now upon us, I am sure that many parents are thinking about buying some new video games for the family, perhaps as gifts for children. Many software companies wait until the winter holidays to release new games, and you will find there are dozens of new video games being released this month.
As you choose new games to purchase, keep in mind the ESRB rating of each game.

The Hatchet chapter 5 assignment is to describe, clearly and in detail, your favourite part of chapter 5. Then you need to explain, thoroughly, WHY it is your favourite part. This task will help you learn and use the comprehension strategy of evaluating. When you use this strategy, you are giving your opinion and making a judgement about what you are reading.
Proofread your writing carefully BEFORE you submit.

It was wonderful seeing so many 5AE parents attending Parents Day today. Your children loved having you in our class, and several of you were very brave by participating in our 30 second speeches. The topics and the imagination of the speakers made for some interesting speeches: sleeping in a tree, chapstick art, dandelions invading the house, ketchup soup, and of course, KG and Mrs. G's magic pizza! Students and parents created some stunning sentences in our sentence competition. Well done! Several students and a few parents now know the secret to the game, Black Magic! Hopefully, all students will be able to figure it out on their own.
Thank you, again, for coming. It was terrific to see you all there!

While reading chapter 1 of Hatchet, 5AE students created "thick" and "thin" questions.
Thin questions are also called "literal" questions. There is one right answer which is found in the text.
Thick questions are those that include "inferential" and "evaluative" questions. Inferential questions require us to hypothesize at an answer and to infer, based on what we read. This is also called "reading between the lines". For an evaluative question, you need to provide your opinion or you need to explain something. With "thick" questions, there is no one correct answer that can be found in the text.
Students are encouraged to create "thick" questions, as they read, to become more involved in the ...

The Grade 6 students are reading "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster. They have been discussing the following essential questions to focus their reading.
-who decides what is important to learn? -can you be forced to learn something if you don't think that it is important? -how can you have fun with words? -is being bored a choice?
Discuss any thoughts you have about these questions here.
