 Brain Teasers Minimize

A variety of brain teasers/mind benders will be posted here. Often, they will have been presented in class but not solved. Sometimes they will be posted as an extra challenge for those interested. Remember, these problems usually require you to think "outside the box". Some will be very tricky.

Library Book Problem

A young man thought it might be nice to join the army, so he went to the local library to find a book on volunteers. While walking along the rows of books, he sees one with VOLIX written on its spine. How should the title of this book be pronounced?

The Worm Problem

A worm is at the bottom of a forty metre hole. It can crawl upwards at the rate of four metres in one day, but at night, it slips back three metres. At this rate, how long will it take the worm to crawl out of the hole?
