This is a section of my blog dedicated to video games. I will post reviews, opinions, and thoughts about video games and how they can be used for entertainment and education. While there are some video games that are inappropriate to fit in this group, such as extremely violent games, there is a large group of video games available that not only entertain, but teach important skills. This section of the blog will have reviews, opinions, and other articles about these kinds of games. If you enjoy playing video games, or would like to find out more about some good ones, this is the place for you! |

Competition for the Nintendo 3DS??? |

It looks like the Nintendo 3DS is the most popular console in 2011, according to the survey I conducted earlier on this blog. We will have to wait a few months to see if it is as good as everyone says it is...
On another note, check out this new console called the "OpenPandora". The company just started selling it last year.

It is based on "Open Source" software. This means anyone can make games on it. You can install any software on it. It can "emulate" different gaming consoles. This means it can play Nintendo Gameboy games, Nintendo 64 games, and even really old NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) games. People have also figured out how to make it play old computer games, and really, really old games from the Atari 2600 and the ColecoVision.
Sounds great, right? There is a dow ...

Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft used to be the major makers of video game consoles. Then, along comes Apple...
and now there are many ways to play video games. The XBox 360 is several years old, as is the Nintendo Wii, and Sony PS3. There is a rumour that the Sony PSP will soon be replaced by a new cellphone. In 2011, Nintendo will be releasing the replacement to the DSi, the Nintendo 3DS
What do you think will be the best video game console of 2011? Fill in your vote here: |

An audio podcast is a useful way of sharing information. To make an audio podcast, you record yourself using a computer. You then save the file and share it on a website like a blog. It's called a "podcast" because people can download the file onto their computers or iPods and listen to it anywhere.
I created a podcast about new video games. You can listen to it if you are interested in video games. Nintendo has created a new version of the "DS Lite" called the DSi.
You can listen to my podcast about the Nintendo DSi by clicking here.
Sony has created a new version of the PSP (Portable Play Station). It's called the PSP 3000.
You can listen to my podcast about

The Sony PSP: a multi-purpose tool |

Last year, I got a Sony PSP for my birthday. I've enjoyed playing lots of games on it, mostly sports games like Madden Football, NBA Live, and FIFA Soccer.
Being a computer teacher, I wanted to checked out some of the other cool features this PSP has. And it is definitely more than a toy!
First of all, the PSP has full access to the Internet. This means that if you can connect to a wireless internet "hotspot", you can check your email and surf the web. Pretty cool! Does this work at school? No. The school's wireless internet network has special security which won't allow PSP's to get online.
If that wasn't cool enough, I also found out the PSP can be used as a phone!!! The PSP has a special program called Skype which allows you to connect to the internet, and then make phone calls. You need a special micro ...

Video Game Reviews: What are you playing right now? |

This section of the blog is for video game reviews. Do you have a game you are currently playing that you think other people would be interested in?

Add your comment here!
If you write about a game, please try to write about the following points:
1) How fun is the game? What makes it fun?
2) How are the graphics and music?
3) How easy or difficult is it?
4) Who would enjoy the game?
I am playing game called "Final Fantasy 3", a re-make of a game from 1990, that was never released in North America. It is a role-playing game, or RPG. This means you control a team of people who travel around, trying to defeat evil. Your characters increase in their abilities as you gain ...

new Sony PSP: What do you think? |

Sony just announced an update to their "Portable Playstation" or PSP. It will be called the PSP-2000. Here's a picture:

It's a little thinner than the old one, with better battery life, and more RAM. "RAM" stands for "Random Access Memory." When a computer has more RAM, it is able to do things more quickly. The PSP-2000 will have 64 megabytes of RAM, instead of 32 like the old one. This means it should have less "load times." With the old PSP, you have to wait for the game to "load" before you can play. The new PSP should be faster.
It also has a video-out port, so you can plug it into a television. I'm not sure why you would want to plug it into a television.
It has the same ...

I noticed from the number of responses in the video game
section that it is a popular topic. I am
often asked: “Mr. B, what gaming console do you think is the best?
A Nintendo Wii?
A Sony PS3?
An Xbox 360?

My favourite game (right now) |

This is my current favourite game right now: Brain Age.
This is a game available for the Nintendo DS. It is a game created by a Neurologist that follows the premise that simple, daily mental exercises can keep one's brain healthy and even prevent the early onset of neurological disease. This premise made this game a run-away hit in Japan when it was first released in 2006, especially among older people who wanted to prevent Alzheimers disease. I'm not sure if it can truly keep you healthy, but I do know it is a fun and addictive game.
The game leads you through different mini-games that focus on different parts of the brain: math-fact quizzes, oral reading, drawing, memory games, and more. This is one of only a few games I know of that is popular with ...

Another great game! |

Elite Beat Agents is another one of my favourite games. There's no violence, just lots of great graphics, pumpin' music, and addictive gameplay.
If you checked Internet game ranking websites in December 2006, you would have seen this game at the top of a lot of lists. It also won GameSpot's "game of the year."
So what is it?
Well, you might read the title and assume it involves shooting badguys or some other form of solve-problems-through violence type of a story. But you would be wrong. In fact, there is no violence in the game at all.
In the game, you help a team (called the Elite Beat Agents) as they travel the world and help various people in different, comical problems. For example, the first perso ...
