| to be completly honest with you I would pick Ovechkin. Like look at that chap. He's got a tinted visor, which if anybody wears they are not cool, and he can hit like nuts. Like watch this video compilation of Ovechkin http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=3957094422427700341. Its soo much better than Crosby's who is a little whiner, because all of his goals are either from other teamates or open nets. Ovechkin like invented the top shelf goal like watch for his shot agianst Boston.Like that's a cannon. and Crosby just whines and cries whenever somebody hurts him cuz he's a lil baby, and Ovechkin goes out and demolishes the guy. I don't see Crosby hittin anybody so thats why Ovechkin is a better rounded player than Crosby. OVECHKIN IS BETTA!!!!! |

| I think I might have to go for Ovechkin. He's bigger, he's tougher, hes got a better shot, and hes older. The only reason Crosby has more points is because hes got more guys to work with like Stall and Malkin. Ovechkin has nobody. If Crosby was playing on Washington and Ovechkin was on Pittsburgh Ovechkin would have way more points. So, Ovechkins bigger, better shooter, tougher, and a better, bigger hitter. And hes better. |

| Mr Hiebert. Ovechkin has way nicer goals and if Ovechkin was on Pittsburgh he would make all the players around him just as good. HE IS BETTER. Look at videos on the net Ovechkin has way better hits, way better goals, way better shots, way better ANYTHING. HE IS BETTER. |

| Sydney Crosby is the best player in the NHL, he has broken many of gretzky's records, and Ovechkin is slower and has less points, if you people say hes so good then he wouldn't need any other players. Sydney Crosby is the best, face the truth, especially you, NIC!!! |

| wow Those are some pretty surprising stats. -15 Ovechkin :-(. I dont know though. Crosby may be better with the numbers but still I think if Ovechkin had the same guys to play with and the same goalie he might be up there to. +/- would go way up. He still has more goals. :-) Its pretty close. |

| I would pick Ovechkin, he is older, stronger and has more skill. He isn't into marketing like Crosby and his commercials for things he doesn't even care about. He won rookie of the year. He may not have as many points as Crosby but he has a bad team backing him, unlike Crosby with Malkin and Stall. |

| Well they're both good players, but come on! It doesn't matter who's playing with who! Right now Crosby has gone from last 1 year, to way higher the next year. Sure Ovechkin got Rookie of the year but he's not lookin so hot right now is he? Thats what I thought. I would pick Crosby for an allstar team because he is getting to a peak at a young age. You can't ask for more than that. So Crosby wasnt up in scoring last year big whoop! It matters down the road not the present. Think about it!!!! |

A friend alerted me to your blog. Thanks so much for your interest in hockey, Alexander and myself! Of course, these debates will always continue, but at the end of the day, the important thig is that you enjoy the games. I can see why your colleague thinks it is just a discussion group, as it only has disscussion posts. Your format is interesting in that it raises a question of authorship for the reader (even if the host can see who's logged in . . .or guess by content). Anyway, what do I know? I just play hockey.

| Crosby is definetely a way better player. Not only is he younger (Crosby-19, Ovechkin-21), but he also has a better work ethic. In a couple of years, Ovechkin will have stopped working hard, because he plays for a bad team, whereas Crosby will continue to work as hard as he is, because his Pittsburgh Penguins will only get better. A lot of people are saying that Crosby has a bunch of players to work with (Malkin, Staal, Malone, Armstrong), this may be true, but it is not those players making Crosby better, it is Crosby making all of them better. He's like the Steve Nash of hockey. And when he wins the Art Ross Trophy this year, he will become the youngest player to do so in NHL history! That's pretty impressive! He's also the youngest player to get 100 points in a season. One last thing, some guy earlier said stuff about Crosby and Ovechkin's nicknames, he was right about Ovechkin's nickname - Alexander the Great, but Crosby's isn't Cry Baby Crosby, it's the Next One, which means that he's the next Wayne Gretzky. Ovechkin may be great, but he's not Sidney Crosby. |

| Max Asper, you are completely wrong. The only reason Crosby has so many points is because of assists, because he has people to pass to! Ovechkin has no one on his team that can even receive a pass, and yet he still has over 70 points. I mean come on, Crosby is a little baby, he got the smallest but end from the smallest guy on Montreal off of a faceoff! I mean everyone chokes up on their stick during faceoffs, and so many people get hit, but only Crosby would cry about it. See what Ovechkin would do is go after the guy and hit him with a clean check, not go to his room and cry his eyes out. And that is why Ovechkin is the better player. |

| everyone is saying that crosby is better because of his plus/minus rating, i mean come on! the plus minus rating totally isnt an indication of how well a single player is doing, because ovechkin is amazing! its an indication of the rest of the players on his team being bad at hockey! plus if you dont know anything about hockey dont leave comments saying "crosby is better!" or "crosbydee" unless you have something to back it up! and that definately isnt crosby leaving messages, because a famous player like him definately doesnt take time leaving messages on a winnipeg prep school's blog! i mean i love canada, but it doesnt matter if crosby is from canada for this debate. its cool he is from canada, but this is about who is the better hockey player, not what country you're from. the penguins aren't coming to winnipeg either, they're going to kansas city, because we can't afford them. also, sidney crosby is far from being the best player in the nhl, because all he can do is pass. proof is the fact that he doesnt even have 30 goals yet. the reason alone that ovechkin is doing as good as he is without a good goalie and backing players is amazing, plus the fact he isnt a big baby. OVECHKIN IS THE BEST!! |

| I still think that Sidney Crosby is the better player. Crosby is a much less selfish player. Malkin is currently in the lead for rookie scoring, a stat that he probably wouldn't as easily reach if he played with Ovechkin, who would be too concerned with his own points. Crosby doesn't really care about how many points he gets, the points just come because of how skilled he is. A lot of people are saying that Ovechkin is tougher. But Crosby takes so much abuse, it's incredible that he hasn't got seriously injured already. They also say that Ovechkin is a better hitter. He's actually not that great of a hitter, but just hits people dirty from behind. Wow, Ovechkin sucks! |

Rob, Phaneuf is so much better of a hitter then Ovechkin, SO he hit Ovechkin once and dont get me wrong Ovechkin is an amazingly skilled player but he will never live up to the defensive skill and the hitting displayed by phaneuf I do have to say Ovechkin is better then crosby and Phaneuf but phaneuf could Crank Ovechkin any day!
Plus i saw his hit on phaneuf and it wasn't that good |

| Ovechkin doesn't hit from behind (with the exception of the hit on Briere) Crosby cosschecks people when he is angry, and there is no place for that in hockey. They had to get Laroque to protect him, and Ovie hasn't needed protection. He took a horible cheap shot form Colton Orr. You don't see him asking Brashear to fight Orr. Crosby couldn't take that. |

| Ovechkin is way better than Crosby. Crosby has a lot of help on him team, and Ovechkin just has Semin. Crosby is on a way better team then Ovechkin. If Ovechkin was on a different team Ovechkin would be way better than Crosby. |

The question that you raised was very significant to the hockey community! The real question is who enjoys the game the most and I believe were equals on that level. Thanks for the question and the feedback that your students have provided. If you could raise the question of how we both could improve our game, the feedback would have a positive result. It may even help us raise our level of the game! I would appreciate this gesture!

I am proud to say that my name appears in the blog of an elite school; however, I would be more pleased to see that 100% of the student body was to choose me as the greater player. What we all need to realize is that we're currently the best players in the NHL. Ovechkin is a great player and I would have to say that I am also great. But, like I said earlier on, "...What do I know? I just play hockey.."; however, I would like to refine my quote to this: "..What do I know? I know how to play the game. That is what I know. For those who don't, please don't criticize..."

It amazes me how many people who dont have a clue about hockey post on here seriously like 50% of these post are by people who have never even watch a full /\/ /-/ \_ game if you know nothing about the topic why post?
